Frank Lampard has handed out glowing praise to Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour after the Blues saw off St Patrick’s Athletic 4-0 on Saturday.
Olivier Giroud scored twice, while Mason Mount and Emerson Palmieri also netted to give Lampard his first win in charge of Chelsea.
Lampard again named two different XIs in either half in Dublin, just as he did in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Bohemians and it was 18-year-old Gilmour who caught his eye.
“Billy Gilmour has had a brilliant trip,” said Lampard, who introduced the Scotland U21 midfielder at half-time.
“He’s a young lad, the personality he’s shown on this trip to play two games at the level he’s played them have been great.
“I just hope Billy just keeps pushing on with that now this season.
“I’s important that the younger players have a target to prove in pre-season that they’re good enough for a place in the team or the squad.
“Tammy [Abraham] and Michy [Batshuayi] had a lot of energy up front and showed exactly the sort of stuff that I want. Mason showed what I saw at Derby last year with his energy alongside Ross so there were a lot of good performances.”
