Lazio consider move for Man Utd defender who is keen to seal €8m exit
Lazio have outlined Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo as a transfer target, according to reports.
Rojo has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and spent the second half of last season on loan back at his first club, Estudiantes.
However, his return to Argentina was not a success, as he only managed one appearance.
Rojo has since returned to Man Utd, but is unlikely to feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for the first team.
Now, one conteder has come forward in the race to sign the 30-year-old.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Lazio have identified Rojo as a player who can solve their issues in defence.
Lazio secured qualification for the Champions League with a fourth-placed finish in Serie A last season. They now need to strengthen their squad before their return to Europe’s top competition.
Defence is one of the main areas they are looking to reinforce. Only Inter Milan conceded fewer goals than them in Serie A last season, but they still have issues with their backline.
Lazio believe Rojo could help them solve those issues. The report reveals that they admire him for his “quality”, “flexibility” and “international experience”.
Rojo would ‘gladly accept’ Lazio
With Rojo out of contract next year, Man Utd must sell him before then to avoid losing him for free. The report claims they want €8m for the defender.
While Lazio have not yet made an official approach to the club, they seem to have found an agreement with the player’s entourage.
In fact, Rojo would “gladly accept” a move to Lazio. The club must first meet United’s demands over the price tag, though.
