Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg TEAMtalk

Tottenham have entered pole position ahead of Everton in the race to sign exit-bound Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to a report.

Spurs and Everton are the leading contenders for the 24-year-old, who has rejected a new Saints contract.

Both sides have made firm bids, with Everton’s approach coming after that from Spurs. However, Tottenham have reportedly stepped up their chase by contacting Hojbjerg’s camp “every day“.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs remain ahead of the Toffees, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium still his “more likely” destination.

Regardless, Everton are reportedly still pushing and have not ended their attempts to sign the midfielder.

The newspaper’s latest report adds that while Arsenal have also considered a move, they are yet to bid. Indeed, it is unlikely they will do so given their Premier League rivals’ progress.

Meanwhile, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has had his say on the speculation over Hojbjerg’s future.

He told Soccer Saturday that the midfielder has failed to live up to expectations since his move from Bayern Munich.

“I just feel we had really high hopes at Southampton for Pierre and I just feel the last 18 months, he doesn’t seem to have kicked on and improved in the way that the club hoped that he would have done,” Le Tissier said (via Hampshire Live).

“I think the point behind that is that he’s been missing for a few games from that Southampton squad, could you tell? Did it make a difference that he wasn’t in the team? No, it didn’t.”

He added on the speculation: “I think Spurs have been mentioned as well as somebody who might want to take him, and that might be something that’s probably maybe more likely to happen given that we’ve got one of Spurs’ players [Kyle Walker-Peters] on loan who I think will possibly end up at Southampton on a permanent basis.

“I think it’s between those two teams. I think £25million is a good deal for Southampton, if I’m honest.”

TWO TOTTENHAM BIDS FOR CENTRE-BACK REJECTED?

Kim Min-Jae

Elsewhere, reports claim that Tottenham have had two bids rejected in the hunt to sign defender Kim Min-jae.

Reports have linked the Beijing Guoan centre-back with a move to some of Europe’s top clubs, Spurs chief among them.

However, the latest report says Tottenham have suffered a double setback in their attempts to sign the South Korean.
