Leeds plot eye-catching swoop for electric Wolves star as significant transfer funds boost nears

Adama Traore, Ruben Neves

Leeds have shown interest in an eye-catching move for Wolves winger Adama Traore as the Whites close in on a significant transfer funds boost, according to a report.

Traore has become one of the Premier League’s most exciting players since his initial spell at Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old showed his raw talent at Boro but has since taken himself to a new level at Wolves. Indeed, his pace and strength – among other attributes – have reportedly attracted Liverpool and Manchester City’s interest.

According to 90min, however, Leeds have registered ‘fresh’ willingness to land Traore ahead in a possible swoop.

The interest comes amid Wolves looking likely to decrease the valuation of their winger. Indeed, he has struggled for game time this season amid the backdrop of his ongoing contract stalemate.

The likes of Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence are ahead of Traore in the pecking order. What’s more, the winger has failed to notch a goal or assist in any of his 15 appearances this term.

Meanwhile, previous reports have revealed that Wolves have become ‘annoyed’ at Traore for stalling on his new contract. The Spaniard’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2023.

90min now says, though, that negotiations have ‘completely stalled’.

As such, Wolves could drop their valuation of the winger below the £70million mark at which he has stood for the past year. In fact, the Molineux club could sanction a deal close to the £40million mark.

Either way, Traore is now looking to move away from Molineux to get regular first-team football. Indeed, he has his sights set on Euro 2021 after earning his first Spain call-up recently.

Further investment coming Leeds’ way

Meanwhile, further investment in Leeds could help the club make funds available to swoop for Traore.

90min notes that the San Francisco 49ers, who currently own a 10 per cent stake in Leeds, want closer ties and are willing to raise that figure to 25 per cent.

Such a move could add £50million to Leeds’ transfer kitty, a sizeable amount of money to put towards a new player.

The source also says that Traore has close ties with Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta. Orta previously worked at Middlesbrough and helped bring the winger to the North East from Aston Villa in 2016.

Leeds added several exciting players to their ranks in the recent transfer window, including record signing Rodrigo.
