Leeds agree another Harrison loan but price of permanent deal goes up

Leeds have agreed another loan deal for Jack Harrison next season, although the price of a permanent deal has reportedly gone up.

The newly-crowned Championship winners had an option to make the winger’s deal a permanent one for a reported £8m. However, it is now claimed they will have to pay £10m if they want to sign next summer.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay revealed in a fan Q&A that ‘kicking the option down the road for another year’ will cost Leeds around £2m.

One fan asked: “Not Derby related, but is the price for Harrison still the same next summer(£8m)?. Or is renegotiating the year extension also renegotiating a new higher price too?. He’s performing better than an £8m player, and is 23, and English so would make sense from their perspective to increase it slightly. It appears extremely clever business if the price is the exact same.”

Hay responded by saying: “No, it’s slightly higher. More in the region of £10m.”

Harrison a key player for Leeds

Leeds director of football Victor Orta had earlier confirmed the loan deal to Radio MARCA.

“A key player has been Jack Harrison, who will continue one more year with us in the Premier League,” Orta said.

“We have reached an agreement with City and we will continue to do so on loan next season.”

This appears to be clever planning by Leeds. They will get the chance to see how the player perfoms in the top flight, before making a decision over a permanent deal.

At this stage it is not clear how much of a loan fee Leeds will pay City. But Bielsa will be delighted to have one of his key men on board again for next season.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa insisted after Leeds’ 3-1 win at Derby that now was not the time to discuss his own future.

Bielsa has steered Leeds back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years and they celebrated their Sky Bet Championship title triumph with a 27th league win of the season at Pride Park.
