Leeds captain explains how documentary will inspire promotion push

Leeds captain Liam Cooper believes a new six-part documentary on the club will help galvanise their fans after last season’s play-off disappointment.

Take Us Home: Leeds United, which tells the story of the club’s first season under manager Marcelo Bielsa, was premiered in Leeds on Wednesday night before its launch on Amazon Prime Video on Friday.

The Whites’ promotion challenge was halted by Derby in the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals after a poor run-in saw them fail to secure a top-two finish.

“One hundred per cent it will, yes,” said Cooper, who was joined by team-mates and guests at the red carpet event. “I think the fans are like us, they feel our pain and we feel their pain.

“I think it will galvanise the city as a whole, us, the supporters, the technical staff, everyone. Hopefully it does have that effect because it will have that effect with me, I know it will.”

In a similar format to the recent docu-series which followed Manchester City and Sunderland, Take Us Home: Leeds United takes a behind-the-scenes look at the club under ambitious owner Andrea Radrizzani and their bid to end their Premier League exile.

The series tells briefly of Leeds‘ turbulent recent past and their spectacular fall from the Champions League to the third tier of English football.

It chronicles their bold plan to lure former Argentina and Chile boss Bielsa to Yorkshire and provides fly-on-the-wall insight into how the obsessive South American has set about transforming the club on and off the pitch.

The documentary ultimately ends in heartbreak as Leeds came unstuck against Derby, but Cooper hopes a possible second series will have a happy ending.

“That’s what we all want,” he added. “When it comes down to it, it’s all about the football, about reaching our dreams and we’ll do all we can to achieve them.

“Let’s hope series two ends a lot better than the first one.”

The docu-series, narrated by actor and Leeds fan Russell Crowe, is produced for Prime Video by Eleven Studios in partnership with The City Talking.
