Concern for Leeds as Ben White posts potential farewell message

Ben White

Ben White has cast doubt on his future after thanking Leeds United for “the most incredible season” in what could be a farewell message.

White seriously impressed on loan at Leeds in 2019-20 as they finally won promotion back to the Premier League. The Brighton-owned defender was ever-present, helping to ensure Leeds conceded fewer goals than any other team in the division.

However, his long-term future remains up for question. Brighton boss Graham Potter has insisted that White will be returning to the Amex Stadium after praising his achievements this season.

Now, White has delivered his own message to the Leeds faithful about his year on loan at Elland Road. And while the 22-year-old admits he is unsure what the future holds, he is grateful for his time in West Yorkshire.

White wrote on Instagram: “Having had some time to reflect on what has been the most incredible season, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone associated with Leeds United Football Club, including the incredible supporters.

“No matter what happens from here I will never forget the way you took me in and treated me as one of your own from day one.

“These memories and experiences will be with me forever.”

PREMIER LEAGUE SUITORS LINE UP FOR WHITE

Wherever White plays next season, it seems unlikely it will be in the second tier again. With his parent club securing Premier League safety, he is set for his first taste of top flight football.

However, despite their strong negotiating stance against Leeds, Brighton may still face a battle to keep hold of him. Premier League champions Liverpool are interested, having just lost Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg.

Manchester City and Manchester United also reportedly have cast their eyes on White. However, Potter’s comments that Brighton are “looking forward to working with him” suggests his future may lie at the Amex.

“I have known Ben for a while,” Potter said last week. “I’ve been aware of him, wanted to try and sign him when we were at Swansea.

“I know about his qualities. He’s a fantastic player.

“He’s done brilliantly at Leeds and helped them get promotion – that’s fantastic for them, fantastic for him. But he’s our player and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
