Leeds eye Italian defender Migliorini

The former Torino centre-half earned plenty of plaudits for his performances last season and has been the subject of enquiries from both Leeds and Serie B Carpi, according to reports in the Italian press.

The sporting director of Juve Stabia, who play in the Lega Pro – Italy’s third division – insists the player is not for sale and believes a move to the second tiers of both Italy and England would be beneath the player.

“No, I almost want to laugh,” Pasquale Logiudice told Tutto Mercato Web in response to claims that Migliorini missed training because a transfer was imminent. “There is no possible transfer for Migliorini. He did not train today because he had back problems. It is clear that we had requests for him, from Carpi and from Leeds United. The player has done well enough to merit playing in a better league,” he added.

Standing at a giant 6ft 4in, Migliorini, 23, is a physically imposing defender and would be well suited to the English game.

He has just a year left on the two-year deal he signed with Stabia last summer and is rated in the £600,000 bracket.

Leeds currently have Sol Bamba, Giuseppe Bellusci, Liam Cooper and Scott Wootton among their central defensive options and owner Massimo Cellino made several signings from Italy last summer.
