Leeds make ‘approach’ for another Man City man but reporter casts doubt

Yangel Herrera, Papu Gomez TEAMtalk

Leeds United have asked for information about Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera, according to a source citing his agent.

Leeds and City are currently negotiating over the future of Jack Harrison, who has spent the past three seasons on loan at Elland Road from the Etihad Stadium. But he is not the only player who could be transferred between the two clubs this summer. Herrera is also apparently on Leeds’ radar.

The Venezuela international spent the past two seasons on loan with Granada. After impressing in La Liga, he was mentioned as a possible target for Leeds back in April.

Now, those rumours are beginning to resurface again. According to LUFC Fan Zone, Herrera’s agent has told them that Leeds have made an approach to City expressing an interest in the player.

They are not his only admirers, so City will have plenty to listen to. Herrera remains under contract with them until 2024, despite never appearing for their first team.

He could yet have a chance to make it in the Premier League, though, if Leeds firm up their interest.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has denied that he is on their shortlist. But the initial source of the rumour maintains they are asking for information.

That is as far as they have gone, though, with no offer yet on the table.

Leeds are looking to strengthen in midfield ahead of their second season back in the Premier League. They require more competition for places and Herrera would be an interesting option to look at.

Whether they go on to make a bid remains to be seen.

Orta wants to show ambition this summer

Leeds are closing in on the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona and a recent report revealed how it could just be the first of several signings at Elland Road this summer.

Leeds impressed upon their long-awaited return to the Premier League last season, finishing ninth. Getting to the top half was a good achievement for Marcelo Bielsa and his players, many of whom were part of their Championship-winning squad from the previous year. But now, that squad needs to be strengthened further.

Bielsa seems to be committed for the upcoming season, so the attention will soon turn to the transfer market. That is Victor Orta’s domain and he is already showing ambition.

Mundo Deportivo claim Leeds “want more” and Firpo would be the “first of a few” signings to guarantee them a “leap in quality”.

The West Yorkshire side were only three points away from European qualification last season. Therefore, a couple of smart signings could help them push further in that direction, even though a second season after promotion can have challenges.
