Leeds urged to sign bargain French attacker who can add new dimension under Bielsa

Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Odsonne Edouard

Paul Robinson has advised Leeds to bring in Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer, amid claims he will be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee.

The French striker looks destined to leave Glasgow this summer with his contract expiring in June 2022.

A number of Premier League clubs are already interested in the Frenchman. Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers signed him for the Hoops and is said to be hoping for a reunion at the King Power.

Wolves and Arsenal have also looked to secure a deal for the 23-year-old. Interest hasn’t been exclusively from England, with Juventus setting their sights on Edouard too.

And earlier this week, it was suggested he could come under West Ham’s watchful gaze.

Edouard has scored an impressive 81 in 161 games across all competitions in his time at Celtic.

And amid claims Celtic would be looking for just £15m for their star man this summer, it’s easy to see why he’s a man in demand.

However, pundit and former Leeds keeper Robinson reckons Edouard will also be on Marcelo Bielsa’s shopping list.

“Leeds need a new striker as back-up for Bamford,” the pundit told MOT Leeds News.

“The way they play now Bamford has become as important as Harry Kane to Tottenham and Jamie Vardy to Leicester.

“The formation the team plays, Bielsa is very rigid in the final third of the pitch and there’s no one else who can do his job.

“I think Raphinha was brought in with the possibility of him playing as back-up, Rodrigo as well, but neither is an out-and-out nine. I think there’s a need in the summer to bring a striker in.”

‘Love to see’ Leeds sign Edouard

Odsonne Edouard Celtic v Aberdeen February 2021

“£15m for Odsonne Edouard is a really great deal. If anyone can get him for £15m it would be amazing.

“I’d love to see Leeds hijack that deal. Edouard can play as a nine and he’s strong. He’s a player who can also play behind the striker.

“If you can get him for £15m… I’d like to see Leeds hijack that deal but I think a lot of other clubs will be in for him too.

“He won’t be on Premier League wages either at Celtic. It won’t take a lot to buy out his contract.”
