Leicester will try to sign Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand if they lose Ben Chilwell to Chelsea in a big-money deal, according to reports.
Reports claim Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants England international Chilwell as part of exciting plans to revamp his team.
The Blues have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Timo Werner and owner Roman Abramovich is willing to spend more.
However, it has also been claimed that Leicester are unwilling to budge on their £85million valuation of Chilwell.
The Foxes lost Harry Maguire for £80million last summer and rate Chilwell just as highly as his fellow Three Lions star.
The Daily Star claims, though, that Leicester have made preparations for Chilwell’s exit by sounding Bertrand out as a replacement.
Southampton rate their left-back – who has one year left on his contract – at £10million.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has reportedly reiterated his desire not let key players enter the precarious final year of contracts.
As such, the Daily Mail claims that Southampton have entered talks to extend Bertrand’s contract.
The development means Leicester could face a race to turn their initial interest in Bertrand into advanced negotiations.
Bertrand, who moved permanently from Chelsea in 2015, has played in 24 of Southampton’s Premier League games this term.
CHELSEA THE EXCITING TALKING POINT?
Anticipation about Chelsea‘s potential next season grew after the reports about the agreement with Werner.
The Germany international could be the second confirmed arrival this summer, after Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech.
Indeed, the pair’s arrival would add an exciting dimension to an attack already boasting Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic.
What’s more, teenager Billy Gilmour is another who has shown exciting promise for Lampard this season.
