Leicester have told Chelsea that they must make Ben Chilwell the world’s most expensive defender to lure him to Stamford Bridge, according to a report.
Chelsea have already spent big in recent months with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
The Blues reportedly want more, with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz their next top target.
What’s more, Foxes left-back Chilwell also features on their radar, with boss Frank Lampard keen to resolve his concerns over Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri in the role.
Recent reports suggested Chelsea wanted Chilwell to help them out by informing Leicester of a desire to leave.
According to the Daily Mirror, Chilwell harbours such an intention. Indeed, he also sees himself playing for the Blues in the next five to six years.
The England international, who has 11 caps, wants to make the left-back spot his own and is eyeing a regular spot at Euro 2021.
However, the newspaper says such a proposition relies on Chelsea stumping up more than £80million. That is the price for which Leicester sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer.
Such a marquee move away from Leicester for Chilwell would be the latest the Foxes have agreed in recent seasons. They have also sold Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater for sizeable fees.
Chelsea’s recent penchant for spending comes after their summer transfer ban last season. The Blues followed that with a quiet January transfer window, with the deal for Ziyech announced in February.
CHELSEA EYE NICK POPE MOVE?
Another area the Blues are reportedly targeting for new additions is between the sticks.
Top 2018 signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has endured troubled form this season and did not feature in last Saturday’s FA Cup final to Arsenal.
Reports have linked Chelsea with several replacements, including Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.
However, Burnley’s Nick Pope is now on their radar and allegedly wants a move to west London.
