Leicester and Everton have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race to sign Southampton striker Danny Ings.
Ings is a man in demand after showing his qualities for Southampton over the past few years. He was the second highest scorer in the Premier League last season and has seven goals from 13 Premier League games this season.
His form has put a transfer on his mind. Southampton only have him under contract for 18 months and Ings is now considering his options.
The former Liverpool striker feels ready for another attempt at a bigger club. His stint at Anfield was disrupted by injuries, so he had to leave to get his career going again.
That he most certainly has done, and with his injury troubles behind him, he is ready for another chance.
There have been rumours of a move to Tottenham, who are looking for more options in attack. Jose Mourinho has refused to comment on the speculation.
However, they are not the only potential suitor. According to 90min, Leicester and Everton also admire Ings.
Leicester are looking for a long-term successor to Jamie Vardy – the only man who outscored Ings in the Premier League last season.
Everton are also keen to add another dimension in attack to complement Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has started this season well.
Ings yet to agree deal
With the prospect of a transfer in mind, Ings is delaying a decision over his new contract. The report says there is a four-year offer of an extension on the table, but he is yet to put pen to paper.
Ings has his eyes on a Champions League challenge. Southampton are having a strong season, but Leicester and Everton are more traditional competitors near the European places.
In truth, Ings may be aiming higher, as neither are Champions League regulars. However, if they continue to show they could compete, it may give him a decision to make.
Southampton naturally want to keep the 28-year-old, but if he shows no interest in an extension, they may prefer to sell him in the summer rather than lose him for nothing in 2022.
Therefore, there could be a chance for his range of suitors to sign him – all he will have to do is make the right decision.
