Leicester are reportedly lining up two deals for centre-backs in case Manchester United come knocking again for Harry Maguire.
United have been linked with the England centre-back, but are believed to have been told that the former Sheffield United man is not for sale.
Still that has not stopped Leicester looking around for defenders in the market and the Foxes are understood top be close to adding at least one central defender before Thursday’s 5pm deadline.
Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti yesterday reported that Filip Benkovic did not travel with the Dinamo Zagreb for their Champions League qualifier with Astana – and he certainly was not in their squad as they won 2-0.
The Croatia Under-21 international is believed to have had his medical on Monday ahead of a £13.5m move – a deal that Sky Sports also claim is close to completion.
The Times reports Leicester are waiting for a bid for Maguire to arrive from United and leicester have also lined up Arsenal target Caglar Soyuncu.
The Daily Mirror claim “the Foxes were on the verge of striking a deal worth £22.5m including add-ons” for Freiburg’s Soyuncu.
The 22-year-old Turkey international looked all set to join Arsenal earlier this summer.
Ozkan told the International Football Economic Forum: “Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal.
“Arsenal demanded his youth information from us. We’ll earn from him if he joins Arsenal. Bayern Munich wants him too, but he’s on the way to the Premier League.”
However, Frieburg denied those claims with director Jochen Saier telling Bild: “Ozkan can know little about the overall scenario. This is total nonsense. Arsenal did not contact me and there is no offer.”
The Mirror report says Leicester are prepared to keep Maguire even if both defender deals are completed, but they will have the knowledge that if United come calling for Masguire they will have enough cover.
