Nampalys Mendy: Signs four-year deal with champions

Leicester City have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy from Nice for a reported club record fee of £13million, subject to Premier League and FA approval.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the King Power Stadium and arrives after helping Nice to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.

Mendy worked with Claudio Ranieri during their time together with AS Monaco and the Frenchman is delighted to be playing for him again in a league that he has been a big fan of.

“I am very happy to come to Leicester City. The team have just enjoyed a great season and it’s excellent to be here,” he told the official Leicester City website.

“For me I want to play at this level. I like the Premier League and I follow every match. It’s fast and physical and I want to impose myself on the league.

“I know the coach (Claudio Ranieri), I know his mentality and I know his philosophy. When he speaks it’s direct and clear and for me I like this.”

It remains to be seen if this signing will act as a replacement for N’Golo Kante, who is said to prefer a move to Chelsea despite Juventus reportedly meeting with his representatives.
