Leicester readying bid for £20m-rated Celtic star, Arsenal on alert

Kristoffer Ajer TEAMtalk

Brendan Rodgers is set to raid former club Celtic to bring a towering central-defender to Leicester, which could offer Arsenal a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Caglar Soyuncu.

The high-flying Foxes have made a superb start to the season, with their eight goals conceded the best mark across the league – a full three goals better than the next best defensive unit Liverpool.

That has not stopped former Hoops boss Rodgers from registering interest in Celtic’s six-foot-six goliath Kristoffer Ajer, however, after a recent report from 90min.com revealed the 21-year-old is a January target.

The article states: “90min understands that Leicester are now set to make a move for Ajer when the window opens,”  with the club hopeful they can “land the rising star for less than £20m.”

A move for Ajer would cause the need for restructuring in the Leicester defensive unit, with 36-year-old Wes Morgan the most likely candidate to be phased out.

Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans have formed a formidable duo in the Foxes backline, with the former’s impressive performances already having attracted the interest of Arsenal.

The 90min article states the Norwegian’s arrival “would not necessarily mean the Foxes selling any of their current defenders,” but could offer the Gunners a glimmer of hope in their quest to end their defensive woes if Soyuncu could be acquired.

Meanwhile, a change of outlook on Unai Emery’s managerial situation has left the Spaniard on the brink, with contact already reported to have been made to Max Allegri.
