Leicester snap up Wolves star Ryan Bennett on loan with option to buy

Ryan Bennett TEAMtalk

Leicester City have completed the six-month loan signing of Wolves centre-back Ryan Bennett with an option to buy for £5 million in the summer.

TEAMtalk reported earlier today that Bennett was due to undergo his medical in Leicester later in the day ahead of an initial loan move.

The deal for the  29-year-old has now been confirmed, with the player moving to the King Power to provide competition for starting centre-halves Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.

The duo have impressed so far this campaign, but with Wes Morgan as Leicester’s only other centre-back and rumours persisting of a Filip Benkovic departure, the Foxes needed to bolster their ranks as they chase Champions League football.

Speaking in his first interview with his new team, Bennett said (via Leicester’s official twitter account): “It’s a massive, massive club. You look at the league table now… it doesn’t lie. The team’s where they should be, so it’s great to come in and be a part of that now.”

Bennett had made 19 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this term, with Nuno Espirito Santo sanctioning the move due to Willy Boly’s return to full fitness.

In related Foxes news, fellow centre-back Benkovic has been completed a loan move to Championship side Bristol City, also for a six month period.

The 22-year-old Croatian has found first-team appearances difficult to come by under Brendan Rodgers, leading to interest from former club Celtic as well as Championship sides Bristol City and Derby County, but it was the Robins that won the race.
