Arsenal have reportedly seen their hopes of signing Red Bull Salzburg winger Dominik Szoboszlai take a blow after RB Leipzig joined the hunt for his signature.

Mikel Arteta’s men are said to have been keeping tabs on the 19-year-old for months, with scouts regularly sent to watch him.

It is also suggested that the Gunners are preparing to move for Szoboszlai in the upcoming January transfer window.

However, they now face major rivals for the player in the form of Bundesliga outfit Leipzig.

Salzburg’s sister club have immediately moved to the front of the queue, given the connection between the two clubs, as reported by SportsMole.

Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano and Hwang Hee-chan have all moved between the two in recent years. And it would appear that Szoboszlai could follow in their footsteps.

The Hungary international has also been linked with PSG, Napoli and AC Milan after a brilliant 2019.20. He directly contributed to 30 goals in 40 games in all competitions for the Austrian outfit.

Szoboszlai has also continued that form this season, with three goals and three assists in just seven outings.

Arteta remains on the hunt for fresh attacking talent ahead of the new year. However, he may be scuppered in his hopes of signing Szoboszlai.

Bellerin played as a right wing-back, but never really got forward and spent most of the game defending.

Arteta has hailed the improvements of the Spaniard earlier this month.

“I think he’s improving day by day. Defensively he’s doing a lot of work individually with the coaches, and with the ball in the final third he feels much more comfortable,” said the Arsenal boss at the start of the month.

But the former Granada boss believes Arteta still has a problem with Bellerin, who has been an ever-present for Arteta in the Premier League this season. Read more…
