Leroy Sane has denied claims that his relationship with Pep Guardiola had turned sour prior to his departure from Manchester City.

Sane completed a £55million move to Bayern Munich last month after almost four years at the Etihad.

The German also enhanced his reputation as one of the best young players in the world while at City. He won two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup, two League Cups and was also crowned PFA Young Player of the Year for 2017/18.

But after missing out on a move to Munich last summer, it was reported that Sane’s relationship with those at City became strained.

A serious knee injury limited him to just one appearance in 2019/20 before being allowed to leave. He also turned down a new contract in order to push through a transfer to the Bundesliga giants.

Having received ‘tough love’ from Guardiola throughout his time at City, some also implied that Sane had grown tired of working under the ex-Barcelona boss.

But Sane has denied those suggestions, insisting he is only thankful for the progress that Guardiola helped him make.

Speaking to SportBild, cited on the Manchester Evening News, Sane said: “Our relationship is good. There was never a point when one was tired of the other.

“I am grateful for everything he taught me. Pep Guardiola helped me to a very high level.

“He is very meticulous and wants to advance the players every day. He is persistent when it comes to his tactics – but that’s positive, it helped me.

“We even lived in the same building, so we saw each other often.”

Phil Foden says he wants City to finish their Premier League season when they take on Norwich on Sunday.

The Citizens bounced back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal with a 4-0 win over Watford on Tuesday.

And the youngster says he wants his side to build up more momentum ahead of the return of the Champions League.
