Letting Sanchez leave was huge error, claims former Man Utd striker

Manchester United’s decision to allow Alexis Sanchez to join Inter Milan on loan has been branded a ‘huge mistake’ by the club’s former striker Louis Saha.

The 30-year-old joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal last month after a difficult 19 months at Old Trafford.

He was United’s highest earner on about £500,000-a-week – but scored only a meagre five times in 45 games after joining from Arsenal in January 2018.

The player has insisted he does not regret his move to Old Trafford after reflecting on his struggles during his time at Old Trafford, though his departure does appear to have been met with disappointment by former France striker Saha, who believed a lack of appreciation forced the player to leave.

“It’s a strange one,” Saha told Stadium Astro. “I think Alexis got to a point where his confidence dropped.

“The terms of the agreement show he needed to move.

“He’s a great player with an abundance of skills and passion. But he couldn’t deliver for United, so having a deal where United pays is a bad deal.

“You would think he could remain there and help the side but mentally it was too exhausting.

“That’s why he wanted to move – he didn’t feel appreciated. It was really hard for him. The decision is not sustainable.”

Saha has become quite vocal in criticising United this summer and was also aghast at their decision to snub a £58.9m signing.
