Leverkusen players take exception to fans booing Man Utd, Liverpool target

Kai Havertz TEAMtalk

Bayer Leverkusen players have spoken out about the barracking that Kai Havertz took from fans on Wednesday night.

Havertz, 2o, whether distracted by transfer talk or not, has struggled to find his form this season, and after substituted in the second half of Leverkusen’s  1-0 home loss to Hertha Berlin on Wednesday he was roundly booed.

Team-mate Jonathan Tah though has defended Havertz, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Man Utd among other clubs.

“I think it sucks,” Tah told Kicker.

“It won’t help anything, and it won’t make him more motivated. The boy is 20 years old. That’s not a nice situation for him. We have to build him up in the dressing room.”

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that Havertz will ignore interest from Liverpool and Manchester United – for now – by staying in the Bundesliga until the end of the season.

The  broadcaster claimed the midfielder was happy at Leverkusen and, at the very least, wants to see out the season with his current employers before thinking about a move elsewhere.

Meanwhile, another of his Bayer team-mates Sven Bender has sympathy for Havertz.

“It’s normal for him to think about his future. You can’t blame him for that. And you don’t get the feeling that his head is already somewhere else. He’s in a difficult spell at the moment.

“It’s not easy for the boy. You shouldn’t forget what an outstanding player he is and what he has achieved for the club,” Bender told Kicker.
