Levy sets out Tottenham strategy after Mourinho orders five signings

Daniel Levy Tottenham TEAMtalk

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants five new signings through the door before the start of next season, according to a report.

Spurs have suffered a turbulent season under both Mourinho and predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, amid a host of injuries.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn are among those to have spent time on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, Mourinho is planning for his first full season in charge and 90min claims he has exciting transfer plans.

The Portuguese has reportedly asked the Spurs hierarchy to sign significant squad depth, given the problems this term.

The report does not make clear which positions Mourinho is targeting, but several names including Philippe Coutinho feature.

Coutinho will return to Barcelona soon after his loan spell at Bayern Munich. However, the Spanish giants are reportedly keen to offload him again on loan.

What’s more, Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser rejected a new deal and will be a free agent next month. Other names mentioned include Thiago Silva and Chelsea winger Willian.

However, the report adds that, given Spurs’ current financial concerns, three signings would be a good achievement.

Spurs‘ expensive new stadium has not held spectators since March and is unlikely to do so any time soon.

Elsewhere, the club are the only Premier League side to take out a £175million Bank of England loan to see them through the crisis, while they reversed a decision to place non-playing staff on furlough after public pressure.

As such, the report says Spurs will consider targets in the loan and free agent markets, rather than outright signings.

TOTTENHAM CONSIDERING MILIK?

Despite the latest report, another source claims Spurs are considering a move for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.

The 26-year-old is out of contract next year and Napoli’s sporting director insisted the club would make a decision on his future before next season.

Milik moved from Ajax in 2016 and, should Napoli sell him, they will use the money to sign Victor Osimhen from Lille.

Napoli have already resolved one star’s contract, with Dries Mertens agreeing extended terms.
