Lewandowski ‘certain’ his Bayern career is ‘over’ amid major transfer admission

Robert Lewandowski captaining Poland

Robert Lewandowski has announced his intention to leave Bayern Munich this summer, even though he has one more year on his contract.

There has been much anticipation about a potential transfer for Lewandowski this summer. Over the past few years, he has cemented his reputation as one of the best players in the world. However, he is yet to win the Ballon d’Or.

Therefore, the Poland international has been considering a future away from Bayern Munich. By playing elsewhere, he could boost his chances of receiving the ultimate individual accolade.

Barcelona have long since been touted as the destination where Lewandowski wants to continue his career.

Although he has not namechecked them directly, he has now confirmed he wants to leave Bayern Munich ahead of next season.

He said at a press conference with Poland: “One thing is certain today – my story with Bayern is over.

“After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good co-operation.

“I realise a transfer will be the best solution for both sides.”

Lewandowski consequently hopes Bayern do not stand in his way despite their contractual agreement.

He added: “I believe that Bayern will not stop me just because they can.

“I think that is all I can say on this subject for today. I am focusing on (Poland’s) training camp. After the training camp there will probably be time to possibly say something more on this topic.”

Lewandowski bound to be Barcelona success if he joins

Lewandowski has an extraordinary scoring record from his Bayern career. For the Bundesliga giants, he has scored 344 goals in 374 games.

But the German top flight is the only one of Europe’s five major leagues he has played in. Therefore, the 33-year-old could be ready for one last big challenge elsewhere.

If his form from recent seasons is anything to go by, he would have no problems adapting wherever he goes.

A move to Barcelona appeals due to the tradition and history of the club. What’s more, they are targeting the addition of a new centre-forward to partner the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay.

As for Bayern, a departure of Lewandowski could open the doors for them to pursue Sadio Mane, who is considering his future at Liverpool.
