Liam Cooper insists the Leeds squad are united in their ambition to secure promotion this season and insists disappointments from the last campaign will drive them forward.
Having joined United from Chesterfield for a bargain £750,000 in summer 2014, Cooper is gearing up for a sixth season at Elland Road – but none of come as close to the promised land as last time around.
Cooper will have a new name alongside him in central defence this season, with Ben White arriving from Brighton and with Pontus Jansson having been allowed to move on to Brentford in a £5.5million deal. There are also reports suggesting Leeds are in the market to sign a new centre-half this summer.
But Cooper insists the only thing on Leeds’ mind is achieving their objective this season, as the club celebrates their landmark 100-year anniversary.
“I think it just gives you that extra bit more motivation with it obviously being a massive year for the club being the centenary year,” said Cooper.
“Obviously there will be a lot more going on in the communities this year as well and we can’t get wait to get going.
“What a great thing it will be to do if we can get promoted this season.
“We are all looking forward to the season, especially after the heartache last year.
“It really motivates us more. The team is raring to go.
“We have come back in great shape, it goes back to hard work from the start and the boys are getting fitter and fitter every day.
“Hopefully we can go on and have another unbelievable season and go one better.”
