Ligue 1 side Marseille are targetting Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud after failing in their bid to sign Mario Balotelli from Nice.

Giroud turned Marseille down last season in favour of joining the Blues from Arsenal, in an £18m deal.

The France star is yet to return to Chelsea training, and has not met new coach Maurizio Sarri either.

Despite that, Marseille are readying a £13m offer for the World Cup winner, and will offer the Frenchman a £5m-a-year deal.

They would also offer Giroud the chance to be a guaranteed starter – something that may not be on offer with the Premier League side.

Former Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin, now back at Marseille has posted a picture of him and Giroud on holiday in Ibiza with the caption: “I will bring him home!”
