Lille chief says star eyed by Arsenal, Liverpool will ‘undoubtedly’ leave

The president of Lille has confirmed that Boubakary Soumare will leave the club this summer amid links with Liverpool and Manchester United.

Soumare enjoyed a breakout season with Lille last year, making 20 appearances in Ligue 1 and six in the Champions League.

His form has put him on the radar of several Premier League clubs. Back in January, he turned down the chance to sign for Newcastle.

Interest from England continues, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all touted as potential suitors.

And the chances of Soumare moving to the Premier League have now increased after Lille president Gerard Lopez admitted the “door is open” to a transfer.

Lopez told Telefoot Chaine (via Get French Football News): “I am going to sit down with the players and their entourages this week.

“We need to sit down with the players and speak. In terms of Boubakary, as we play with two in the midfield… The door is open if he wants to leave.

“We have had important offers from clubs where he did not want to go.

“All three parties have to agree for a transfer to occur… He’s quite impatient to play and that’s normal. It shows ambition.

“He will undoubtedly leave the club, the door is open. We have concrete offers. We will talk in the coming days.”

Arsenal to rival Man Utd for Soumare?

Reports last month suggested it would be a two-horse race between Arsenal and Manchester United for Soumare’s signature.

If he was to move to the former, it would be the second time this transfer window that Arsenal had bought a player from Lille. They signed Gabriel Magalhaes from the French club to strengthen their defence earlier this month.

The two clubs also dealt together to bring Nicolas Pepe to the Premier League last summer. However, Arsenal are not the only contenders for Soumare.

Back in April, reports claimed Jurgen Klopp was “in love” with the midfielder and wanted to take him to Liverpool. Real Madrid are also in the hunt, though.
