Man Utd star hails ‘great job’ completing ‘main objective’ amid lack of wins

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has praised his team-mates for helping keep three clean sheets in a row in all competitions.

United have faced criticism for their lack of intensity in recent 0-0 draws with Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

In fact, they struggled to create many openings against Palace’s low block last time out.

In addition, they have only won two of seven Premier League games since the 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United in January.

Nevertheless, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s United have kept three clean sheets in a row including the 0-0 Europa League draw with Real Sociedad.

As such, Swedish defender Lindelof feels that his side have completed their “main objective”.

“Yeah, obviously as a defender you want to help the team get clean sheets – that’s always the main objective that we have,” the 26-year-old told MUTV.

“If you look at the positive things, that’s one good thing for us to keep clean sheets and not concede goals. That’s the main objective for us defenders and the keepers.

Manchester United's downturn in form in the Premier League in recent weeks is not down to pressure, says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“But also as a team, as a whole unit, everyone from the defenders, midfielders and strikers, everyone has been involved and [is] doing a great job with that.

“I’m very pleased with the way we have been doing that.”

Lindelof has jumped in and out of the team this season, amid an ongoing back problem. He missed five out of six league games between December and the end of January.

However, he made 90-minute stints in six of the last seven.

“Of course. It’s a big game, everyone wants to play in those games,” he said. “Yeah I’ve been struggling a bit with my back. I’ve been having it for the last couple of months.

“I missed a few games as well and I am just trying to manage it in a good way. I missed a few games and I came back slowly. I played one game and then I got to rest again, it felt a bit better.

“It started to come back a little bit but I’m just trying to manage it in a good way, do the recovery right and then treatment. [I’m] just trying to manage it in a good way.”
