Liverpool have added Sparta Prague starlet Adam Hlozek to their list of attacking targets for the summer, according to a report.
The Reds have failed to defend their Premier League crown this season and problems in attack have been a major factor. Mohamed Salah has been the only member of their famed front three to reach his usual goalscoring levels. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have both endured underwhelming seasons.
There could be changes afoot at Anfield in the summer. Diogo Jota has shown that the front three is not as unbreakable as it previously seemed, so new life could be injected into it.
There are also rumours that at least one of Salah, Mane and Firmino could leave. Either way, Liverpool need to increase their attacking depth.
The centre-forward role is a particular area of focus. Firmino has flourished there but as his form has dropped, questions have been raised of whether a more traditional striker is needed up front.
However, there are doubts over whether Liverpool will be able to spend big on a high-profile new striker. Instead, just as they did in their search for a new defender in January, they may opt for a long-term project instead.
With that in mind, Football Insider claim that Hlozek is now on their radar.
The teenager has emerged from the Sparta Prague academy to become a first-team regular. Hlozek has scored five goals from 13 appearances in the Czech top flight this season.
Following on from his seven in 34 last season, it is a respectable tally given that he missed several months with a broken foot.
Now back in full working order, Hlozek remains a player with huge potential and Liverpool are aware. It is claimed that their scouts have sent back positive reports to the recruitment team.
Thanks to his strength and pace, Hlozek is seen as someone who could make an instant transition to the Liverpool senior setup. His qualities seem to match those required for Jurgen Klopp’s system.
It is not yet clear if Liverpool will make a bid or how much Hlozek might cost. At 18 years old, he should come on the cheaper side but only Sparta know his true value.
Crouch ‘staggered’ trio could leave
Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch recently expressed his surprise at the idea that Salah, Mane or Firmino could leave.
Crouch told the Daily Mail: “I wouldn’t sell any of them. Why would you even think of doing that unless one of them wanted to go?
“I understand Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have not hit the heights we have expected of them this season but that doesn’t mean their time is up.
“It staggers me that we live in a world where cancel culture is growing by the day.
“A player is out of form for a season? Sell him. A manager underperforms? Sack him.”
Even if the Liverpool trio do stay, though, it is clear they need more competition alongside the impactful Jota to push them for a place.
