Liverpool on board as divisive star springs last-ditch attempt at Jan exit

Gomez Firmino Adrian TEAMtalk

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian is looking to seal an exit with the help of the club before Monday evening’s transfer deadline, according to a report.

The Spaniard has stayed largely on the fringes of the Reds’ squad since his arrival in the summer of 2019.

Indeed, while he has enjoyed several spells in the team in place of Alisson, his Brazilian counterpart remains the undisputed first choice.

What’s more, Adrian has recently lost his place as Liverpool’s No 2 to Caoimhin Kelleher. Manager Jurgen Klopp gambled by throwing the 22-year-old in against Ajax in December, but did not look back.

As such, Estadio Deportivo reports that Adrian’s recent relegation has left the 34-year-old looking to move on.

The stopper’s contract runs out in the summer and, although he has an option for an extra year, he could well leave in the coming months anyway, knowing that chances in the team look more difficult to come by than before.

As such, the goalkeeper reportedly cannot wait to see if he gets a move before Monday’s deadline.

In any case, Liverpool are willing to let Adrian go before his contract runs out. Despite losing an option between the sticks, they feel that they would not be hampering their ranks too much with an early departure.

Therefore, Reds chiefs are willing to listen to all offers that come in for the player before then.

However, Estadio Deportivo does not state whether Liverpool have received any interest.

Adrian enjoyed a roller coaster start to his Liverpool career. After only three days of training, he became the hero in the UEFA Super Cup penalty shootout against Chelsea.

Since then, though, he has proved a divisive character among fans. Indeed, his reputation diminished when two errors led in part to Liverpool’s exit from the Champions League last March.

Adrian speculation matched by arrival talk

Aaron Long TEAMtalk

Amid the speculation about Adrian’s future, Liverpool could yet sanction a late arrival into the club.

That would come at centre-back, where the Reds will be without any senior recognised centre-backs for the foreseeable future.

As such, reports claim that USA international Aaron Long is on the club’s radar.
