Liverpool storm ahead of Man Utd for Norwich ace after imposing display

Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell, according to reports.
Cantwell has been one of the shining lights for the Canaries in an otherwise poor season, scoring six goals and assisting two others.
Indeed, the 21-year-old was impressive throughout as Daniel Farke’s side, who sit bottom of the Premier League table, kept Liverpool at bay for much of last weekend’s clash at Carrow Road.
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, United and Liverpool have been joined by Manchester City and Tottenham in hunting a deal for Cantwell.
However, the journalist says that Liverpool stepped up their interest in the midfielder throughout January and are now the frontrunners for his signature at the end of the season.
United have been linked with a move for Cantwell in the past due to the player fitting into the mould Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants for new signings – young, hungry talent who can realise their potential at Old Trafford.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will likely lose Adam Lallana at the end of the season when his contract expires, while Xherdan Shaqiri has also been credited with interest from elsewhere.
In other news, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has insisted that Liverpool target Timo Werner is happy to continue with his Bundesliga employers until the end of the season.
Werner, who has scored 25 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season, has long been linked with a move to Anfield.
Mintzlaff said in response to the rumours, however: “We hear these reports all the time.
“Someone makes something up, and everyone else copies it. Werner is happy here and wants to play the rest of the season.”
