Liverpool are biggest movers in Europe’s list of transfer expenditure

A football research group have produced a list of big-five league teams according to transfer expenditure to sign current squad members.

CIES Football Observatory report that, unsurprisingly, Manchester City top the list with almost “€1billion in transfer indemnities to sign its present squad members”.

Seven English Premier League teams have made the 11 top positions in the table Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton, with the biggest increase, compared to last year, coming from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, whose squad expenditure jumped from €437milllion to €704million.

Incredibly, Everton (€385m) sit above Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (380m) and Europa League winner’s Atletico Madrid (330m).
