Real Madrid to sell Liverpool, Arsenal target after forward becomes a ‘problem’

Vinicius Junior TEAMtalk

Long-term Liverpool and Arsenal target Vinicius Junior will be sold by Real Madrid in the summer, according to a report in Spain.

The 20-year-old was a reported target for the Reds as far back as 2018, but he has re-emerged as a reported target more recently.

According to El Chiringuito (via Ok Diario), the Premier League champions were tracking the Brazilian once more, along with Arsenal.

The Daily Star claimed an option for Arsenal in January was Vinicius.

Arsenal were in the market for Vinicius back when Unai Emery was in charge. The report claimed they still have a good relationship with the player’s agent, but a move last month never materialised.

Now Spanish outlet AS,  report that Los Blancos, who paid a reported fee of €46m in May 2017 for the forward, want to recoup some of that money in the summer.

The LaLiga giants have been crippled by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Spanish giants lost out on €106m in income last season.

Their pre-tax profit fell by almost €40m and this season’s turnover is set to be almost €300m less.

New Liverpool signing Ben Davies describes his move to Anfield as an 'exciting time' and admitted it will take a couple of weeks for it to sink in.

Meanwhile, Madrid’s top target next summer is reportedly Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. But with the France striker set to cost in excess of €150m, Los Blancos will need to raise some funds.

Dropped by Zidane

The report claims the player’s “status within the club has also changed”. If his sale a year ago was non-negotiable, now the Madrid hierarchy see him as one of the players to sell.

Zinedine Zidane sidelined Vinicius Jr after he started looking at his mobile phone rather than listening to a team talk, according to AS. The incident happened prior to the second leg of Real’s Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City on August 7.

Vinicius has scored just three goals in 24 appearances for Madrid in all competitions this term, 10 of those being starts. And it may well be that Real’s patience has run out with the player, whom they expected so much of.

AS claim in the last two game the forward has become a “problem” for his team and “has been a negative protagonist”.
