Atletico Madrid have announced that reported Liverpool target Angel Correa has signed a new six-year contract at the La Liga club.

The 23-year-old attacker was believed to be on the radar of Jurgen Klopp last summer, but Atletico think highly of the Argentinian and have tied him down to a long-term deal.

Liverpool were reported to have contacted Correa’s representatives to offer the player a five-year deal at Anfield.

The striker was in talks with the Reds over a 2017 move to Anfield, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

The report claimed the Reds were willing to spend £25million on the player who moved to Atletico from San Lorenzo in the summer of 2014.

Correa though, who has made six La Liga appearances this term, scoring one goal, has now pledge his future to the La Liga side

“I am proud that the club continues to trust me and I continue to grow as a footballer here,” Correa told Atletico’s website.

“That means I’m doing things well, but I have to keep working, improving and growing in this club, where I’m very happy.

“I am very grateful to the club for the confidence placed in me, we have a great team and a great technical team and if we all work together in the same direction, I think we are going to make a great campaign.

“I feel the affection of the people and that makes me very happy, it encourages me to keep improving day by day.”
