Liverpool awaiting Barcelona call after Thiago, Klopp reach exciting deal

Thiago-Bayern-Munich

Thiago Alcantara already has a “pre-agreement” with Liverpool to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the squad, according to a report.

Liverpool are keen on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, who is likely to leave Bayern in the coming weeks. Indeed, Bayern CEO Karl Heinz-Rummenigge confirmed as much after his latest meeting with the Spaniard.

The Reds have reportedly mulled over a deal due to the finances, though. Bayern want £27million for the midfielder, a fee out of range for the Premier League champions.

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), however, the departure of Wijnaldum to Barcelona could cover the cost of a deal.

Wijnaldum is a target for new Barca boss Ronald Koeman, who wants to revamp his midfield. The likes of Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal would leave beforehand to help the cash-strapped Spaniards afford the deal.

The news outlet adds that, should Barcelona’s interest “crystallise”, a deal would be within reach for the club.

As such, Liverpool are allegedly waiting for that to happen so that they can step up their pursuit of Thiago.

Mundo Deportivo also claims that Thiago has an agreement in which he replaces Wijnaldum in Liverpool’s midfield.

Indeed, previous reports suggested Liverpool would not be progressing contract talks with 2016 signing Wijnaldum. According to Goal, however, all options remain open, with the situation yet to develop.

In any case, Mundo Deportivo adds that Netherlands international Wijnaldum is fond of the prospect of a move to Barca. He would reunite with compatriot Koeman, with the pair previously working together for their national team.
