Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Mohamed Salah admission

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool TEAMtalk

Jurgen Klopp has defended the form of Mohamed Salah and says he does not expect the striker to repeat his heroics from last season.

Salah blasted 43 goals for the Reds last season after his bargain £36.9million move from Roma – in a debut season that superseded everyone’s expectations.

However, his form this season has been questioned and he was substituted in the midweek win over PSG, but Klopp is not concerned.

“On a defensive side, the last two games from Mo were outstanding. That says everything about him. It’s normal for an offensive player that there are times when you don’t score,” said Klopp in his news conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Southampton.

“He is in a good shape. Finishing is something you never can take for granted.”

It was pointed out to Klopp that Salah only managed three goals in his first six games last term, as opposed to two goals this time around.

“Of course everybody expects [same as last year]. We don’t. That’s completely normal.

“What did he get [in first six] last season? Three. And two in six this season? Wow, that’s a crisis!

“He needed time last year, like we all needed time. And he will take time this season as well.

“It’s really no problem. Everything is fine. Yes, he lost the ball before we conceded the second goal and it was a very intense game. It was not the reason I took him off, of course not. I’m fine with him and I think he is fine with me.

“At the end of the season he will see how it is.”
