Jurgen Klopp has issued a challenge to Daniel Sturridge during Liverpool’s pre-season.
Sturridge played just 14 times for Liverpool last season, starting four games in all competitions.
The striker was sent out on loan to West Brom in the January transfer window, but injuries and a struggle for form meant he returned four months later with a relegation to his name and his stock lower than before.
His future looks certain to lie away from Anfield, with Rhian Brewster deemed capable of taking his spot as Roberto Firmino’s back-up.
Liverpool are thought to want around £15million for the player, who has one year left on his contract, with Sevilla and Fenerbahce both interested.
But the 28-year-old could hope to play his way back into Klopp’s plans with a promising pre-season for Liverpool.
Sturridge scored twice in a 7-0 friendly win over Chester on Saturday, and Klopp noted his contribution.
“I saw a lot of good things from Daniel so he needs more that he can still impress me,” the German told Liverpool’s official website.
“I know about his quality. A very positive week, very positive today, he looked really good.”
