Liverpool in emergency contact for Tottenham keeper after Adrian disaster

Liverpool have made an enquiry about Paulo Gazzaniga after Adrian conceded seven goals in their shocking loss to Aston Villa.

Adrian came in for the injured Alisson Becker at Villa Park, but the Premier League champions were left stunned as they lost 7-2.

While several of the goals were deflections, Adrian was definitely at fault for the opener. And with Jurgen Klopp confirming that first-choice Alisson will be out for at least a few weeks, Liverpool may need a more reliable deputy.

According to The Independent, the Premier League champions have now made contact with Tottenham to check on Gazzaniga’s availability.

The 28-year-old made 18 appearances in the top flight last season, conceding 26 goals. However, he has fallen down the pecking order after Spurs signed Joe Hart.

Therefore, Liverpool have identified Gazzaniga as an emergency target on deadline day to provide better cover for Alisson.

Gazzaniga has spent the past three years as backup to Hugo Lloris at Tottenham. He has made 37 appearances in all competitions during that time.

However, Hart has been preferred to him in the two Europa League games Lloris has missed this season.

Hence, Gazzaniga is looking for a new club. He had been suggested as a target for Aston Villa before they signed Emiliano Martinez earlier in the transfer window, but could now end up at Liverpool instead.

Carragher urges Liverpool to sign keeper

One man who wasn’t impressed by Adrian in the 7-2 defeat was former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher doubted that youngster Caoimhin Kelleher would be ready to play in the first game back after the international break, when they play Everton.

Therefore, the pundit has urged them to sign a better backup than Adrian.

“It wouldn’t shock me if Liverpool didn’t try to do something on Monday,” he said. “A new keeper might not have been in their thinking [before Sunday]. It could be now….”
