Liverpool dealt blow as Barcelona make clear plans for Klopp target

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina, according to reports in Spain.

It was previously believed that Mina could be joining Jurgen Klopp’s side on a season-long loan, but it now appears he will be moving to Sevilla instead.

Barcelona are set to sign France U21 defender Clement Lenglet from Sevilla, and according to ABC De Sevilla, they will send Mina the other way on loan as part of the deal – meaning Liverpool will miss out.

The Colombian centre-back joined Barcelona from Palmeiras in January, but was restricted to just six appearances, and has been linked with a move elsewhere.

Spanish journalist Ignacio Miguelez recently told El Chiringuito: “There is a player who has already closed his future for next year and it is Yerry Mina, the Colombian will play on loan at Liverpool.”

However, Klopp appears to have changed his mind on signing a new defender, and will continue to use the Virgil Van Dijk-Dejan Lovren partnership next season.
