Liverpool are pondering whether to use their Philippe Coutinho cash to pay the release clause of an AC Milan star, a report claims.

According to an exclusive from Calciomercato, the Anfield club are debating making a move for one of their former players in Milan winger Suso.

Three years ago, the Spaniard arrived at San Siro from Anfield for a minuscule fee of just €300k, having failed to impress at Liverpool.

Now however, Suso is regarded as one of the best attackers in Serie A and is apparently valued at around €50million.

Suso renewed his AC Milan contract in September in a deal running until 2022. It is believed that a release clause between €40-50million was inserted in his new contract.

Still, according to sources, there haven’t been any official approaches for Suso from Liverpool as their priorities are Monaco star Thomas Lemar and Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.

The Liverpool Echo reported on Wednesday that Suso was a possible target to replace Coutinho, however Sky Italia promptly denied any chance of his departure.

They claimed that Suso will not be sold this January and will remain at Milan, but with another outlet reporting Liverpool’s interest and the existence of a release clause, they may not have the final say.
