Liverpool defender pondering exit with capital clubs eyeing up swoop

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is considering leaving the club after becoming increasingly frustrated at a lack of playing time, according to a report.

The 22-year-old formed a solid partnership at the back with Virgil van Dijk for a while last season but a long-term injury suffered at Burnley in December allowed Joel Matip to reclaim his place.

Matip has not looked back since – even being rewarded with a new contract for his performances – and Gomez has recently spoken out about his frustrations having played only 90 minutes of Premier League action so far this term.

According to 90min.com, Gomez is now thinking about leaving the club and it is said that Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in his services.

The Gunners signed David Luiz as a defensive addition in the summer but they have still struggled at the back, while Spurs could lose both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld next summer when their current contracts are set to expire.

Gomez was signed by the Reds from Charlton in 2015 and has been in and out of the Liverpool fold since his arrival at Anfield.

The England international’s recent struggles for game time have seen him lose his place in Gareth Southgate’s side.
