Liverpool eyeing Tottenham-linked star to remedy area of weakness

Liverpool have drawn up a four-man shortlist to bolster an area lacking in squad depth, with the headline name previously linked with Tottenham, according to a report.

The Reds marched to their first ever Premier League title, ultimately lifting the trophy with an 18-point margin.

But despite their impressive campaign, areas of Jurgen Klopp’s squad remain light.

Centre-forward is one such area, with a recent report hinting trouble could be brewing regarding striker reinforcements.

But it is at left-back where Liverpool are now linked with new arrivals.

Andy Robertson has blossomed into becoming one of the world’s premier left-backs since his Anfield arrival.

But since Alberto Moreno’s departure, the Reds have been without a natural left-sided back-up.

James Milner has deputised on occasion, but lacks the firepower Liverpool’s system requires from the full-back positions.

Now, according to the Liverpool Echo (who cite Greek outlet FOS), a four-man shortlist has been written to remedy the issue.

Olympiacos left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas is the headline attraction, with Liverpool reportedly ‘interested’ in a deal.

The 24-year-old was previously linked with Tottenham, though more recently appeared bound for France.

The Greek international provided five league assists last season, plus another in the Champions League.

A fee of around the £7m mark is touted as being required to secure his signature.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could be about to be usurped in the race to sign a £68m Brazilian previously hinted by Klopp to be a ‘perfect partner’ for Virgil van Dijk.

The Gunners finished the season strongly, picking up the club’s 14th FA Cup trophy at Chelsea’s expense on Saturday.

But despite the cup success, their league campaign largely underwhelmed, frequently typified by struggles at the back.

One particular area of weakness was at centre-back, with Arteta chopping and changing in the position since his arrival in December.

Now, Arsenal have thrown their name into the hat to sign the La Liga man alongside Liverpool.
