Liverpool fans want new No.10 to start against Watford

Shaqiri Keita TEAMtalk

A Man Utd fan points out Romelu Lukaku’s efforts against Liverpool, Liverpool want a new no.10 tonight and can Arsenal’s best front three be effective against the top teams? All in our forum…

Lukaku to come to the fore

Great piece on the United app about Lukaku’s performance against Liverpool. He started the move that Lingard should have finished by outmuscling Matip and laying the ball off for Pogba. Then great first touch (ha!) and expert vision to pick out that lovely pass, perfectly weighted, into Lingard’s feet.

We all know about his ball that Smalling should have got on the end of. The other bit was about him tracking back and intercepting a dangerous pass to Robertson, right on the edge of our area, in the 91st minute. Very good all round display from him and I expect him to put in a good performance against Palace now.
He needs a goal!

Thanks @alfie07 😉

Yes Palace are a dangerous team but most teams in the league are dangerous. We should expecting a win.
I’m tempted to say I wanna see a front 3 of Alexis, Lukaku and Chong but the latter may be more effective coming off the bench.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up playing a bit of a 4-4-2 diamond with McTominay holding, Pogba and Pereira in the middle and

Fred or maybe even Angel Gomes given a bit of a free role behind the front 2
Whatever happens, I think we’ll keep it pretty tight at the back. Predicting a 2 nil win for United:
Crystal Palace 0 – 2 Manchester United!!!

Palace have beaten Leicester, Wolves, Man City and Spurs recently. This should be a tough game.

Despite all the injuries, with Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba and maybe one of Gomes or Chong, we’ve still got enough quality to hurt Palace.

McTominay, Pereira and the back four were very solid against Liverpool, so I think we’ll play on the counter-attack and nick a 0-1.

I think homerjay’s prediction regarding our starting line-up looks pretty accurate. We’d all like to see Gomes or Chong in there but I have a feeling it’ll be a case of pragmatism over idealism. That means Fred will be given a chance in a midfield diamond also consisting of Pogba, Pereira snd McTominay.

Hardly ideal but it’s the situation we find ourselves in. Part of it is bad luck but it’s mostly down to disastrous planning of those in charge. Every team would struggle to replace the best players but we’re struggling to replace many players who should probably only be squad players at best.

Going into a match with players eager to prove a point and establish themselves can be positive and, no matter how you look at it, 5 of our front 6 will be in that position against Palace. The only problem is that most of them are and will never be good enough so the most they can hope to prove is that they can work hard when the team is in dire need.

McTominay and Pereira will do that but don’t have what it takes to succeed at top level – no matter how badly we want them to as homegrown players. Fred already looks like one of the biggest flops in Premier League – let alone United’s – history. Lukaku might plunder in the odd goal against weaker opposition but lacks that little bit of quality to do it consistently against the very best. Then there’s Sanchez who looks more and more like a subject from Unsolved Mysteries.

Thankfully, our defense has been surprisingly solid lately so hopfully we can keep Palace at bay (no Phil Jones so hopefully no penalties to Palace) and nick a goal or two. Not overly ambitious, I know, but a damning verdict of the direction the club has slowly but steadily steared into since Rio and Ryan lifted the Champions League trophy back in 2008.

Chong to win it for United

My lineup would be:
Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
Mctomminay Fred Pogba
Sanchez Lukaku Chong

Palace 0 United 1
Chong 23′

Liverpool strikers for 2019/20

I know its early but I genuinely don’t know anything about decent strikers who play outside of the PL and since we are expected to need cover to get some more next season I thought I ask the TT community about decent strikers who could fit Klopp’s style of play.

I’ve heard about that guy at Bournemouth Callum Wilson and maybe he could be a decent buy but being English he would be expensive I guess. Any other potential targets in England and around the world?

Werner’s been heavily linked this season. We absolutely need a top class number 9. Wish we’d got Aubameyang.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Werner deal was wrapped up already a la VVD.

Liverpool need to go all out

Time to go all out for the win with attacking football.

Shaqiri, Keita and TAA to start will increase our potency going forward. Also Sturridge and Origi to play some part in this game

Songman

Keita in the No 10 role

Think we’d be more effective playing with 10 men than have Sturridge on the pitch. It’s not he doesn’t offer anything anymore, I actually think he compromises our play that much we’re better off without him.

I’d like to see a 4231 with Keita in the 10 position, Salah up top and mane and Shaq wide. Although Shaq needs to step up and show his early season form as he’s been pretty bad recently.

Can Arsenal finish in the top four?

I think we can but not sure we will. Emery has done really well as we don’t have the best squad but I do have a criticism and I still think he sets the team up to nullify the opposition and not play to our strengths even when we play inferior opposition.

I think the top two are done but feel the other 2 positions are realistic targets the positives are Spurs have a tough run in, United have a few injuries, and Chelsea are not in form although they played well in the final.

We are going to have to be almost perfect until the end of the season. P.s I feel that was close to our best 11 on Sunday. The only player I change is swap Must for Kos but its a good balance and we have decent options off the bench.

Best front three doesn’t work against the top teams

In regards to our best first team,IMO we don’t have one.It varies from opposition to opposition.Especially our frontline.I would say on paper our best front three is ozil behind laca and auba. But it practically dosen’t work against top teams. This two striker system. And when we come up against top teams they manage to keep more posession,so our game is based on pressing and Ozil is useless at it.I can understand why many a time Miki and iwobi start in order to provide width.

That’s why I said it’s vital for us to have signed a proper winger who can be that permanent thread.I hope in the summer we go in for Zaha or pepe,if not both.

In regards to our midfield,it’s also been proved time and again that our best three is Xhaka,Torreira and Ramsey.Guen has enormous amounts of talent and is surely a future superstar but there’s a difference between being ready and not being ready and he’s the latter.I’ve proved by providing facts on this.

Amongst the mistakes Emery has made, constantly dropping Ramsey just because he’s leaving is one of them.Play your best side, stop doing it at the expense of our team.I hope he alteast realises that now.I think both Ramsey and Xhaka are vital to this team.Torr and geun can rotate amongst themselves.
Iwobi has also been very good recently and his end product/decision making which has been his biggest issue seems to be gradually improving.

Chelsea’s zonal marking at corners 😳

during the Carabao Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on February 24, 2019 in London, England.

Aindro the point I was making re Dave and Kepa was that Dave was telling us that he was on the other side of the pitch. My point was not about the incident itself, but more around during any game the same thing is always going to happen. How can you captain be seen and heard when he is stuck out in no mans land. The captain needs to be a guy in the middle of the pitch where he can see and hear everything going on and be seen and heard himself.

The comment Dave made on the Kepa incident just highlights the problem giving the armband to Dave.
Another thing I can’t stand watching is the way we defend corners. Zonal defending with every man back. Did you see the way city had a wall of players outside our box all unmarked waiting for the second ball. And there we were with all our players marking shadows in the box. An accident waiting to happen, and inviting 100% pressure with no chance of a quick break out.

Surely you Mark players in your box to stop them getting a free run,and put a couple of your fast players up the pitch for a quick break out. No not Sarri, he wants us to pass the ball out to Jorginho because he I’ds the only player he thinks is good enough to pick a pass

Kepa truth, only he knows

At the end of the day only Kepa will know the truth and everything else is pure speculation. The player, the manager and the Club have all had their say and taken what they consider to the correct action so the issue should now be considered as closed.

However, Sarri is now saying he may not start Kepa on Wednesday and will see what the “group agree on”. Basically he is the manager paid to make these decisions and if he does not play Kepa then this little saga will continue to roll and be a cloud hanging over everyone for a few more days allowing all and sundry a few more pot shots at us…!! KTBFFH

CFC1905

Agree with that 1905 and as you rightly say he’s the Manager and should be taking the decision.

Personally whilst Kepa was in the wrong the ott way Sarri reacted to it all made everything a lot worse imo.

If it was about the injury Sarri should have spoken to Kepa and assured himself he was ok to carry on as well as speaking to the medical staff.

Emerson to keep his place

Emerson Palmieri TEAMtalk

I would play a slightly different formation. Like 4-3-1-2. I will play the same back four as yesterday. Because Sarri said that Alonso is out of form now. So he intends to use Emerson. At least that gives us a balance. As Emerson attacks less and defends more.

I would play the same trio in the middle. But upfront is where i would make alteration. I would drop both Willian and Pedro and bring Loftus Cheek and Higuain. I would play Hazard and Higuain up top and RLC behind them. In that way we can put their defence under pressure. I can see them adopting that tactic against us.

Rodgers had done everything he could at Celtic

He’d done everything he could at Celtic. Given their restrictions financially he was never going to be able to build a successful European side so he coudn’t do much more except maybe get them out of a Champions League group or maybe the quarter finals.

Also his reliance on loanees from the PL and elsewhere means that the squad is permanently being constructed and in a state of flux with only some permanence. Celtic are a massive club but in what is very much a two club league he probably wanted a bigger challenge.
