Liverpool foray into deal for Argentina star with 20+ goals, assists this season
Liverpool have registered initial interest in Norwich winger Emiliano Buendia ahead of a potential transfer raid, a report claims.
Jurgen Klopp has formed a deadly attack since taking over at Anfield, one of the best and most consistent in Europe. Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have notched over 250 goals between them since joining. However, strength in depth has often proved Liverpool’s problem up top.
While the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi have produced standout moments of their own, they have largely struggled for consistent minutes.
However, Liverpool took steps to addressing their shortage in September by bringing in Diogo Jota.
According to Anfield Central, the Reds have now made enquiries over Canaries forward Buendia.
The Argentine, who moved to Norwich in 2018, impressed in his side’s Premier League return last term. Indeed, he notched seven assists, the same as Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva.
But after inspiring Norwich’s top-flight comeback in his debut season, he has lit up the Championship again this season.
Buendia has directly contributed to 24 goals, scoring 11 and laying on 13 for his team-mates; in his first season with Norwich, he netted eight times and assisted 12 goals.
Jamie Carragher: 'Diogo Jota is one of the first names on the team sheet'
Jamie Carragher analyses Diogo Jota's impact at Liverpool this season and feels the Portuguese forward should be one of the first names on the Reds' team sheet.
Such form has helped the Canaries to top the table this term, just as they did in 2018/19.
Arsenal entertained links with a transfer in the January transfer window, but a deal never materialised. In fact, one source reported that the Canaries wanted a “crazy” fee in the last market.
That reported price tag of between £40million and £50million will likely have remained.
However, Anfield Central‘s report does not go any further than mentioning initial Liverpool approaches.
Liverpool eye goal-hungry striker
Amid links with Buendia, Liverpool reportedly have their eye on a gifted striker plying his trade in Austria.
RB Salzburg star Patson Daka has emerged as an exciting player and scored against the Reds in pre-season.
According to reports, Klopp and Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards have put the Zambian on their radar.
