Liverpool have been handed a major boost as a summer target is tempted to move to Anfield, a report claims.

Spanish newspaper Marca claim that Marco Asensio’s head has been turned by Jurgen Klopp’s interest.

Recent reports have been linked Liverpool with the Spain international, with speculation that they could launch a stunning £158m bid.

It is also claimed that Liverpool are ready to step up their interest in Asensio after missing out on a deal for Lyon star Nabil Fekir.

Barcelona-based paper Mundo Deportivo reported on Saturday that Liverpool had lodged a €180m bid for the Spain star and that Real were studying the offer.

After Spain’s 2-2 draw with Morocco, Asensio was asked about his future, replying: “Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection.

“I’m glad Julen has signed up for Real Madrid, after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him.”
