Liverpool head-to-head with Dortmund in battle over Spanish winger

Liverpool are set to rival Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona in the race to sign a promising Spanish winger, with a fee of around €20m touted as sufficient to land the player.

Ferran Torres is the man in question, with the 19-year-old’s rise through the ranks at Valencia attracting the attention of some of Europe’s elite.

A report from German publication SportBild (via SportWitness) states that ‘Torres’ contract with the La Liga side runs down in 2021 and there’s not thought to be an extension on the horizon.’

The Reds are understood to be ‘providing serious competition’ for Dortmund in the pursuit of Torres, with SportBild ‘[believing] Valencia would look to sell him for €20m next summer.’

The teenager operates mainly from the right-hand side, meaning his potential acquisition would provide stiff competition for incumbent right winger Mohammed Salah.

Torres has contributed just three goals in his 67 first-team appearances for Valencia thus far – a figure that hardly sets the world alight – but is believed to be a player with a bright future that could develop into a genuine superstar down the line.

Meanwhile, Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders has pinpointed two Reds stars he believes can make a huge impact this season.
