Liverpool cult hero happy with bit part role as he plans Anfield stay

Milner, Origi Liverpool TEAMtalk

Liverpool forward Divock Origi has accepted his role from the bench and is not planning to leave in the next transfer window.

Despite previously insisting he is not looking to leave, a lack of starting opportunities has led to some reports he could depart Anfield at the end of the season.

The Belgian has again had to settle for being a back-up option this year. Origi has made 39 appearances in 2019/20, with 26 of those coming from the bench.

What’s more, the 25-year-old has failed to perform when played from the start by Jurgen Klopp. Therefore, there have also been hints the Reds could look to move him on.

However, a report from Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, cited on Sport Witness, has dismissed those suggestions.

It claims Origi ‘doesn’t feel like an adventure’ at this time and is happy to continue being a ‘super sub’. The striker gained that tag having scored a number of crucial goals last term. He scored a 96th minute winner against Everton in the league, and netted Liverpool’s second in the Champions League final.

It goes on to say that he wants to be a part of Liverpool’s success, even if that is a substitute. He is even willing to sacrifice his place in the Belgium national side to make that happen.

Origi has made 28 appearances for Belgium, with the last of those is coming in November 2019. He is in with a chance of going to European Championships, but will need playing time to keep his place in the squad. But, the ex-Lille man is reportedly putting club ambitions ahead of his national career.

Origi signed a new deal with the Merseyside club last year, committing until 2024. That means he is under no immediate pressure to make any decisions on his future.
