Brighton have shown interest in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and could involve him in a Gunners swap deal for Yves Bissouma, a report claims.
The Seagulls ensured they will spend a fifth successive season in the Premier League by finishing 16th this term. However, they earned only nine wins, the third-lowest tally. What’s more, they lacked a true goalscorer. They hoped Danny Welbeck’s arrival would aid their problem, but he only hit six strikes.
In fact, Neal Maupay finished top of their charts with eight goals and a goal conversion rate of only 16 per cent.
As a result, a star striker is on their radar and Latest Brighton reports that they have shown interest in Nketiah. The 21-year-old has made 17 league appearances this term, but only played 413 minutes.
His contractual situation is also a concern as his terms expire next summer. The source adds that Brighton see the England Under-21 international as a solid target with Premier League experience.
However, the interest in Nketiah also has to do with Arsenal‘s hunt for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.
The midfielder is a man in demand, with Liverpool also tracking his progress. But with the deal with Arsenal likely suiting both clubs’ needs better, the Reds’ hopes have taken a hit.
Mali international Bissouma made 36 Premier League appearances this term, playing every minute of the last 20 games of the campaign.
Graham Potter: Yves Bissouma was frustrating us before top-corner strike!
Brighton head coach Graham Potter says he was getting frustrated with Yves Bissouma before his stunning strike in the FA Cup victory over Blackpool.
Latest Brighton adds that the Seagulls will look to part with money, as well as Bissouma, to get Nketiah.
Nevertheless, reports claim that Liverpool are to hold exploratory talks with Bissouma’s agent on Friday.
Roma target Arsenal’s Xhaka
Meanwhile, reports elsewhere claim that Roma are keen on a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The 28-year-old has had a chequered history at the Gunners, but largely remained a strong figure in the dressing room.
However, his time at the Emirates Stadium could soon come to an end.
