Liverpool hopes over as target signs for Barcelona with €200m clause

Barcelona have agreed a deal worth up to €30million for Real Betis full-back Junior Firpo.

The Catalan giants will pay an initial €18m for the 22-year-old, described by the club’s official website as “one of the most promising left-backs in European football”, plus a potential 12m in add-ons.

Firpo, who was born in the Dominican Republic but is a Spanish youth international, will sign a five-year contract with a release clause of €200m.

The defender made his senior Betis debut in February 2018 and was part of the Spain Under-21s side who won the European Championship in June.

He racked up 29 appearances for Betis in all competitions last season, scoring three goals, including the opener in a shock 4-3 LaLiga win at the Nou Camp.

Firpo was heavily linked with Liverpool as they look for someone to deputise for Andy Robertson, but his future is now confirmed.

Barcelona have already added Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie De Jong and Neto to their squad for the 2019-20 season.
