Liverpool are reportedly ready to spend £40million to try and land Arsenal and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s versatility and believes he would be a huge asset to his squad as Liverpool prepare for life back in the Champions League next season.
There has been plenty of speculation over the 23-year-old’s future over the last six months but Arsenal are ready to hand Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is out of contract next summer, a new long-term contract worth £100,000-a-week to keep him at the club.
The Gunners are desperate to fend off any interest from Liverpool in the player, who is reportedly tempted by the possibility of playing for Klopp after failing to progress how he would have liked during his six years at The Emirates.
Liverpool are ready to bid as much as £40m to land one of their top targets this summer, according to the report in the Sunday Express, in the hope that they can turn Oxlade-Chamberlain’s head at the last minute and force through a switch to Anfield.
The Reds’ transfer business has not gone too well so far this summer, with the club having to write an apology and pull out of the race to sign Virgil van Dijk, while an expected move for Roma winger Mohamed Salah has yet to materialise.
