Liverpool informed £44m Spain raid can revitalise key area for Klopp

Liverpool have told they could regenerate their attack by recruiting Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele, following claims he can leave for a knockdown price.

Only Mo Salah of their usually-reliable front three have maintained top form for Liverpool this season. Indeed, Sadio Mane (13) and Roberto Firmino (six) are well down in the goals chart to where they would normally expect to be.

As such, bringing in more competition up front appears in Liverpool’s thinking this summer.

A number of strikers have been mentioned as possible targets, with PSG’s Kylian Mbappe an unlikely option. Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Torino’s Andrea Belotti are also among those mentioned.

However, Jurgen Klopp is now being linked again with Dembele, who has enjoyed a resurgence with Barcelona this season.

The 23-year-old has 10 goals and four assists this season from 22 starts for Barca this season. Indeed, such has been his improvement that he has finally rediscovered the form that convinced Barcelona to shell out £102m for his services.

But with his deal due to expire in summer 2022, cash-strapped Barca are willing to move him on this summer. According to a report, Barcelona will reportedly accept a bid of between €50-60m for Dembele.

The reduction in fee is no slight on Dembele’s talents, however, more a necessity to ensure they don’t lose the player for free 12 months later.

Now Paddy Kenny has told Football Insider that a cut-price deal of around £44m is too good for Liverpool to ignore. The pundit feels he could prove a bargain signing for that sort of fee and help provide a spark to the Reds attack.

“They’ve knocked £50m off his price and are willing to cut their losses,” Kenny said of Dembele.

Sol Bamba says Manchester United have to move on from Jadon Sancho and that Ousmane Dembele would be the perfect replacement.

“But the fact they thought he was worth that at one point tells you all you need to know, really. He definitely has quality.

“I think £44m in this day and age is not a lot of money. This would be a good move for them.

“He’s still young and definitely worth signing if you can get him at that price.

“Wages are the only concern. But if you get him in for cheaper than he’s actually worth, that’ll even itself out eventually.”

Dembele cool on his future

Dembele’s improvement has also seen him mentioned as a target for Manchester United and Juventus.

Indeed, Juve could let Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala depart this summer after losing their grip on the Serie A title.

As such, Dembele has been mentioned as a potential replacement in their attack.

However, the man with 23 France caps appeared laid back about the current state of affairs when questioned last month.

“I still have one year left on my contract,” he told beIN Sports. “There have been no talks with the new board yet, but I’m happy and feel good.

“I don’t know the new president, but he is very close to the players. We’ll see how it goes. I have been feeling good since I got back.”
